Questions that Need Clarification/Followup

Q: Within the 2007ESM (at console on server), I run the message tracking utility for messages sent to me (or any other user) between July 1, 2007 to July 13, 2007 - Message tracking results state last message received was on the 10th - I run the command to check within the shell and same results are reported, however when I skim through the actual log files they show emails being sent to me up to today? Permissions on the directory are Full Control for local Administrators, Creator Owner, Network Service and System - what am I missing?

(follow-up question) - what's the exact syntax you're using that results in this behavior?

Q. Each AD site with a mailbox role requires a CA and HT role also, so what about if you have numerous remote sites with a bunch of clients and and a few DCs in that site in but their MB is in a remote AD site (your basic centralised scenario). How does the Exchange 2007 store driver know how to pickup messages from the client that is an remote site with no HT locally?

(Follow-up clarification): Since the mailbox (and mailbox server) you're connected to when sending the mail is in a site with HT local to it I don't understand the question/concern. Can you clarify?

Q: Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have created a public folder in Exchange 2007 and given a distribution group access. Users with shared mailboxes within the distribution group do not have access, but users with a personal mailbox do.

(Follow-up Q ) : Can you be more specific about users with shared mailboxes? Which user account are these users logging in to Exchange with?

Q: We have an Exchange 2007 server running. We are having problems with Mobile Access. Sending and receiving mail is ok but when it comes to synchronizing the calendar we get an error. If you add a meeting to your calendar from the phone and sync it, it goes to your calendar in the mailbox on the server. However, when I add a meeting in the Outlook 2007 client from my computer and afterwards I synchronize my mobile phone from the internet, I immediately get an email from the system saying : ***************************************************** Synchronization with your IMEI356211xxxxxxxxx failed for 1 items. Microsoft Exchange was unable to send the following items to your mobile device. These items have not been deleted. You should be able to access them using either Outlook or Outlook Web Access. There is not a single clue for this error on the net. I was wondering if anyone else is facing this problem?

( Follow-up Q ): Unfortunately this isn't enough info to troubleshoot this effectively. You'd need to collect the user’s mailbox logs via OWA (Options > mobile device > retrieve logs). Also, the actual calendar item that couldn’t sync would also be helpful. Probably your best best for this is a PSS support call.

Q: I am attempting to remove the Edge Transport role from a server. There are no other roles on this server and it is NOT a member of the domain. It keeps telling me "this operation can only be performed on a hub transport or edge trasport role".

(Follow-up Q): This might be a bug, or the person that is doing this may not have the latest bits. Please follow up with the version of Exchange that you are running.

Q: When pulling mail from a general delivery mailbox that uses a number of secondary email addresses via POP3, the To is rewritten to the primary email address. When doing the same pull using MAPI the secondary email address is preserved. This is a change in behaviour from Exchange 2003 to 2007. As a result our customer service mail application is now unable to route mail to the appropriate person. What might the reasoning be behind this change? Is it documented anywhere?

(Follup-up Q): Exchange 2007 no longer uses a STM file, so all messages are promoted to full MAPI messages and thus the TO: addresses are resolved. Is it possible to use another attribute to route the message, or could you create a mailbox for each user?

Q: I am getting the following error in the application event log on our Exchange server 2007. The exchange environment was upgraded from Exchange 2003 and now everyone is unable to view free/busy information when scheduling meetings etc. I have read and applied the steps at the http://blog.stealthpuppy.com/exchange/exchange-server-2007-and-public-folder-replicas. But still no free/busy. Has anyone had the same issue? Thanks

Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeFBPublish Event Category: General Event ID: 8207 Date: 11/20/2007 Time: 8:48:24 AM User: N/A Computer: Exch Description: Error updating public folder with free/busy information on virtual machine Exch. The error number is 0x8004010f. For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

(Follow-up Q): Are all of the mailboxes now on the Exchange 2007 servers? Are you still using Outlook 2003 or have you upgraded to Outlook 2007?

Q: Is there a way to get a list of mailboxes whose primary SMTP addresses are %1g%s@domain.com or %g%1s@domain.com ? I am trying to do this because I want to turn the Recipient Policy off for any email addresses that do NOT match %1g%s@domain.com. There is a powershell script on http://jimthemcp.blogspot.com/ that I found, but It is returning an error for me. -Thanks

Follow-up: Can you be more specific on the error that you get?
